25 HOUSEHOLD TIPS!!!

25 HOUSEHOLD TIPS!!!
1. Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.
2. Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!
3. Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.
4. Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.
5. To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.
6. For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.
7. Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.
8. Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm!
9. Reheat Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.
10. Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.
11. Expanding Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.
12. Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.
13. Newspaper weeds away
Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go. Cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.
14. Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.
15. No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.
16. Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.
17. Flexible vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.
18. Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... guess what! ... static is gone.
19. Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. (Or spray the measuring cup or spoon with Pam before using)
20. Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!
21. Re-opening envelopes
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.
22. Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.
23. Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!
24. Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!
25. Dryer Filter
Even if you are very diligent about cleaning the lint filter in your dryer it still may be causing you a problem. If you use dryer sheets a waxy build up could be accumulating on the filter causing your dryer to over heat. The solution to this is to clean your filter with with a toothbrush and hot soapy water every 6 months.

MIGRAINE RELIEVER

If you're experiencing chronic migraine, check what you're eating. Some of the foods that trigger migraine: Fried foods, sugar, artificial sweeteners, flour products, dairy products, alcohol, caffeine, food additives, chocolate and some nuts/seeds.
A diet high in complex carbohydrates (whole grains and starchy vegetables) and low in protein is recommended for headache sufferers.
Most of the time, a migraine is the body’s way of signalling that it is dehydrated. Drink PLENTY of water, fresh fruit and vegetable juices to rid the body of the toxins that are the main culprit of headaches.
Most fruits and vegetables are rich in three very important minerals that help remedy migraine, namely: Potassium, calcium and magnesium. Some foods that especially help: Dark green vegetables, bananas, cantaloupe, celery, cucumber, lemon, pineapple, watermelon, and ginger.
Suggested MIGRAINE RELIEVER RECIPE:
- 1/2 pineapple
- 3-4 leaves kale or a bunch of spinach
- 1 stick of celery
- 1/4 lemon
- 1/2 inch ginger root (optional)'

10 Strange Remedies - at least they're interesting...worth a try!

10 Strange Remedies - at least they're interesting...worth a try!
Vodka for Smelly Feet
Some people are just cursed with smelly feet. Generally speaking it’s men, but we aren’t going to unfairly profile here. Smelly feet are caused by bacteria growing on the feet during the day. It is not necessarily a sign of lack of hygiene, though that should certainly be your first line of defense in controlling foot odor. There are a number of products on the market that promise to get rid of that smelly foot smell for you. However, many people are sensitive to the ingredients in these sprays. A better alternative is Vodka! Apparently Vodka is good for more than just toasting. The extremely high alcohol content in vodka can kill odor causing bacteria on contact. Vodka also has a drying effect which helps eliminate the moisture on the feet. Simply wipe down your tootsies with a vodka soaked cloth.
Dryer Sheet Magic Eraser
Many people are simply amazed at the magic eraser products that came out a few years ago. Did you know that your common dryer sheet contains many of the same ingredients as the magic eraser? Using a few leftover dryer sheets can give you the same cleaning power as the more expensive products. All you need to do is wet the dryer sheet and get to scrubbing. The way that dryer sheet material is woven together gives it great abrasive power in your shower making it a far better soap scum remover than many soap scum removing products. To increase your cleaning power, you might want to use a new dryer sheet rather than a used one.
Duct Tape for Warts
Warts are gross, no argument there. But more disturbing than the wart itself are some of the methods and chemicals used to remove them. The thought of having something burned off your body with liquid nitrogen is just unpleasant. It seems that duct tape really can be used for anything, because among its myriad of uses, it is actually a very effective wart remover as well. You can cover a wart with a small piece of duct tape for a week. This can block oxygen to the wart enough to stunt the growth. After one week, remove the tape; clean the area by scrubbing it well with a pumice stone. Recover the wart and repeat once a week until the wart naturally falls off.
Lemons for Morning Sickness
Pregnancy is a joyful time, when you are not puking that is. Majority of women will suffer from morning sickness to some degree. However, many women find their morning sickness so severe that it interferes with their day to day life. When every activity is being interrupted with trips to the bathroom, pregnant women need relief. Most women are nervous to take anti-nausea medications during pregnancy, though. There is reason to be nervous too. Many over the counter anti-nausea medications such as Dramamine have very strong sedative effects that are not good for the fetus. For ladies hoping to take a more natural path aromatherapy can come to their rescue. The fresh, citrus scent of lemons can almost Immediately relieve nausea associated with morning sickness. Keep a zip lock bag full of fresh lemon slices for instant relief.
Aspirin for Acne
A common aspirin contains a substance called acetylsalicylic acid. This substance is very similar to salicylic acid which is the active ingredient in many acne treatments. A crushed aspirin can eliminate the red swollen appearance of pimples in about an hour. Simply crush an aspirin and then mix with enough water to make a paste. Apply the paste to the affected area and allow it to dry. When the paste become powdery again, rinse the area with water.
Onions for Earaches
Earaches are the bane of childhood, but also one of the most mysterious. You can never really know what is going on in that deep, dark tunnel of the ear canal. Most earaches are caused by fluid that has been trapped and thus caused infection. The antiseptic properties of onions can disinfect the ear canal, bringing quick pain relief. Boil an onion until it is soft. Once is has cooled enough to touch, squeeze the juice into a bowl. Using a medicine dropper, apply 2-5 drops of the warm juice into the affected ear.
Toothpaste for Bug Bites
A small dab of toothpaste can instantly relieve the sting and itch of an insect bite. Most likely it is the peppermint oil in the toothpaste that brings about the cooling affect. Peppermint essential oil can have the same, if not greater, effect. Peppermint oil has been used for hundreds of years to treat ailments. If you don’t have peppermint oil on hand, then give the toothpaste a try.
Teabags for Burns
Kitchen burns are one the most common home injuries. Even a small burn can be very painful. Luckily the kitchen is also the place to find soothing relief for that burn. You can apply a wet cool teabag to the burned area for quick pain reduction.
Chocolate for a Cough
Finally, there is a justifiable reason to eat chocolate! You have heard the old saying, “A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.” Well two ounces of dark chocolate may contain as much Theobromine as most over the counter cough medicines. Theobromine suppresses nerves responsible for the cough reflex. When this nerve is calmed by dark chocolate you can get a break from your hacking cough.
Yogurt for Yeast Infections
Yeast infections are a result of an imbalance in your pH levels. These levels can be thrown off by several reasons including medications, sickness and personal hygiene products. When you eat yogurt, the naturally occurring good bacteria found in yogurt can bring these pH levels back into balance and clear up a yeast infection naturally.

Homemade Weed Killer

Homemade Weed Killer
Have you noticed the price of Roundup? Wow, that stuff is expensive. It does work great, however, to kill weeds that you get in the nooks and crannies of your sidewalks and patio. What if there was an inexpensive alternative? There is!
When I saw this article I knew I had to give this natural weed killer a try. It is very inexpensive, non-toxic, and yes it will kill your weeds.
Here is what you will need:
1 gallon of white vinegar
1/2 cup salt
Liquid dish soap (any brand)
Empty spray bottle
Put salt in the empty spray bottle and fill it the rest of the way up with white vinegar. Add a squirt of liquid dish soap.
This solution works best if you use it on a hot day. Spray it on the weeds in the morning, and as it heats up it will do its work.

TREATING FEET

Make sure to SHARE this so you can have the instructions SAVED to your timeline!
We have been wearing our flip flops or sandals all summer long. Here are some GREAT home remedies to keep the feet looking and smelling good!
TREATING CRACKED HEELS & BLACKENED FEET
1. Put shaving cream on your feet.
2. In a bucket or sink, combine equal parts warm water and Listerine.
3. Soak a small hand towel in the solution of water and Listerine.
4. While the shaving cream is still on your feet wrap the wet hand towel around your feet and let it sit for 30 minutes.
5. After 30 minutes, use the towel to rub your feet. Some of the calloused and discolored skin will rub off.
6. Apply a healthy amount of lotion to your feet.
7. After your foot bath, is it a good idea to spend at least 5 minutes drying your feet. You want to make sure you do not put your socks and shoes on with your feet
still wet or damp (this can cause bacteria growth and infection).
8. Use a towel to pat your feet dry and be sure to get in between the toes.
***Also, give your feet a break from sandals (don't wear them every day) and apply lotion to your heels nightly to reduce cracking***
TREATING SORE OR SMELLY FEET
Soak your feet in 1 gallon of warm water and 1 cap-full of bleach. This takes the soreness out of your feet and kills bacteria that cause the smelly feet.
*You can only use this method three times a week.*
In general, please pay attention to your feet. It is very easy to get a foot infection due to the fact that they get little air, they sweat, and they are in limited space in a shoe to move.

Fly Control

Below are comments on this fly control idea. I'm now a believer!
Zip-lock water bags: #1 Says: I tried the zip lock bag and pennies this weekend. I have a horse trailer. The flies were bad while I was camping. I put the baggies with pennies above the door of the LQ. NOT ONE FLY came in the trailer. The horse trailer part had many. Not sure why it works but it does!
#2 Says:Fill a zip lock bag with water and 5 or 6 pennies and hang it in the problem area. In my case it was a particular window in my home. It had a slight passage way for insects. Every since I have done that, it has kept flies and wasps away. Some say that wasps and flies mistake the bag for some other insect nest and are threatened.
#3 Says:I swear by the plastic bag of water trick. I have them on porch and basement. We saw these in Northeast Mo. at an Amish grocery store& have used them since. They say it works because a fly sees a reflection& won't come around.
#4 Says:Regarding the science behind zip log bags of water? My research found that the millions of molecules of water presents its own prism effect and given that flies have a lot of eyes, to them it's like a zillion disco balls reflecting light, colors and movement in a dizzying manner. When you figure that flies are prey for many other bugs, animals, birds, etc., they simply won't take the risk of being around that much perceived action. I moved to a rural area and thought these "hillbillies" were just yanking my city boy chain but I tried it and it worked immediately! We went from hundreds of flies to seeing the occasional one, but he didn't hang around long.

NATURAL SUNBURN REMEDIES

NATURAL SUNBURN REMEDIES
1. Use compresses
Following a burn, skin is inflamed. Cool it down with compresses dipped in any of the following substances.
Cold water. Use either plain water from the faucet or add a few ice cubes, says Michael Schreiber, MD. Dip a cloth into the liquid and lay it over the burn. Repeat every few minutes as the cloth warms. Apply several times a day for a total of 10 to 15 minutes each.
Aluminum acetate. If itching is intense, says Thomas Gossel, PhD, RPh, try mixing Domeboro's powder packets (available in drugstores) with water. The aluminum acetate in the powder keeps skin from getting too dry or itchy. Follow package directions.
Witch hazel. Moisten a cloth with witch hazel, says Fredric Haberman, MD. This incredible astringent has been shown to have long-lasting anti-inflammatory relief. Apply often for temporary relief. For smaller areas, dip cotton balls into the liquid and gently wipe on.
SMART TIP: You can also direct a fan on the area to heighten cooling.
2. Apply these foods
Common kitchen staples can be great sunburn soothers.
Oatmeal. Wrap dry oatmeal in cheesecloth or gauze. Run cool water through it. Discard the oatmeal and soak compresses in the liquid. Apply every 2 to 4 hours.
Fat-free milk. Mix 1 cup fat-free milk with 4 cups water, then add a few ice cubes. Apply compresses for 15 to 20 minutes; repeat every 2 to 4 hours.
Cornstarch. Add enough water to cornstarch to make a paste. Apply directly to the sunburn.
Lettuce. Boil lettuce leaves in water. Strain, then let the liquid cool several hours in the refrigerator. Dip cotton balls into the liquid and gently press or wipe onto irritated skin.
Yogurt. Apply yogurt to all sunburned areas. Rinse off in a cool shower, then gently pat skin dry.
Tea bags. If your eyelids are burned, apply tea bags soaked in cool water to decrease swelling and help relieve pain. Tea has tannic acid, which seems to ease sunburn pain.
3. Avoid soap
Don't make it worse! Soap can dry and irritate burned skin.
Do not soak in soapy water. Likewise, stay away from bubble baths. If you must use soap, says Dr. Gossel, use only a mild brand and rinse it off very well. What you can do is take a cool bath, as an alternative to compresses. Add more water as needed to keep the temperature cool. Afterward, gently pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Do not rub your skin, or you'll irritate it further. You can also add one of the following to reduce pain, itching, and inflammation.
Vinegar. Mix 1 cup of white or apple cider vinegar into a tub of cool water, says Carl Korn, M.D. A great astringent, it soothes sunburn pain.
Aveeno. If the sunburn involves a large area, use the premeasured packets or add 1/2 cup of Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment, made from oatmeal, to a tub of cool water, says Dr. Schreiber. Soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Aveeno is a well-known remedy for itching.
Baking soda. Generously sprinkle baking soda into tepid bathwater, suggests Dr. Haberman. Instead of toweling off, let the solution dry on your skin. It is completely nontoxic, and it will soothe the pain.
4. Memorize these rules
While the memory of your burn is still painfully fresh, brush up on your sun sense with these tips from Norman Levine, M.D.
Apply a sunscreen about 30 minutes before going out, even if it's overcast. (Harmful rays can penetrate cloud cover.) Don't forget to protect your lips, hands, ears, and the back of your neck. Reapply as necessary after swimming or perspiring heavily.
Pick a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) between 15 and 30.
Sunscreens with SPF 15 protect against 94 percent of the sun's harmful rays, and those with SPF 30 protect against 97%. Also look for the ingredients zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, or avobenzone in your sunscreen. These block both ultraviolet A and B rays.
Take extra care between the hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM (11:00 a.m. and 4:00 PM, daylight saving time), when the sun is at its strongest.
Wear protective clothing when not swimming. Hats, tightly woven fabrics, and long sleeves help keep the sun off your skin.
5. Moisturize
You've really damaged your skin. It's time to slather on lotion and begin repairs.
Soaks and compresses feel good and give temporary relief, says Rodney Basler, MD. But they can make your skin feel drier than before if you don't apply moisturizing skin care immediately afterward. Pat yourself dry, then smooth on some bath oil. Let it soak in for a minute, then apply a moisturizing cream or lotion, such as Eucerin.
SMART TIP: Chill your moisturizer in the fridge for added relief.
6. Shop for the right skin care
Filter all the choices at the drugstore by looking for these key healers.
Relieve with hydrocortisone: Soothe skin irritation and inflammation with a topical lotion, spray, or ointment containing 1 percent hydrocortisone, such as Cortaid or Cortizone-10, says Dr. Basler.
Soothe with aloe: "We're starting to see evidence in medical literature that aloe vera may really help wound healing," says Dr. Basler. Simply break off a leaf and apply the juice. But test a small area first, he cautions, to make sure you're not allergic to aloe.
Guard against infection: If you have an infection or are worried that one will develop, use an over-the-counter antibacterial ointment such as Polysporin or Neosporin, says Dr. Schreiber.
Numb with an anesthetic: If your burn is mild, an over-the-counter anesthetic can relieve pain and itching, says Dr. Gossel. Look for brands that contain benzocaine, benzyl alcohol, lidocaine, or diphenhydramine hydrochloride. Aerosols are easier to apply than creams or ointments, but never spray them directly onto your face. Instead, put some on a piece of gauze or a cotton pad and pat it on your face to avoid contact with your eyes.
7. Go to the freezer
Sunburns hurt! Follow your urge to reach for something cold, just make sure to do it right.
An ice pack can also provide relief if the burn is mild. Wrap it in a damp cloth and hold it over the sunburn. Improvise, if necessary, says Dr. Haberman. "You could even take a bag of frozen peas, for instance, and use that. But make sure to wrap it first so that you're not placing the icy package directly against your skin."
8. Eat and drink!
Put the right stuff in your body to aid your skin-saving efforts.
It's a good idea to drink lots of water to help counteract the drying effects of a sunburn, says Dr. Gossel. The water in fruit counts, too. One large wedge of watermelon provides 9 ounces—more than 1 full cup—of water. (It's also an excellent source of cancer-fighting lycopene.) Other fruit standouts: 1 c diced honeydew (5.4 ounces of water); 1 c sliced beets (5.2 ounces of water); 1 c cubed cantaloupe (5.1 ounces of water). Eat lightly but wisely, Dr. Gossel adds. A balanced diet helps provide the nutrients your skin needs to regenerate.
9. Take it easy
Put the right stuff in your body to aid your skin-saving efforts.
Sleeping on a sunburn can be challenging, but you need rest for your body to recover. Try sprinkling talcum powder on your sheets to minimize chafing and friction, says Dr. Haberman. An air mattress might also help you sleep more easily.
SMART TIP: If your legs are burned and your feet are swollen, elevate your legs above heart level to help stop the swelling, says Dr. Basler.
10. Beware of blisters
A sign of severe damage, blisters must be treated with care.
If blisters develop, you have a pretty bad burn. If they bother you and they cover only a small area, you may carefully drain them, says Dr. Basler. But do not peel the top skin off; you'll have less discomfort and danger of infection if air does not come in contact with sensitive nerve endings. To drain the fluid, first sterilize a needle by holding it over a flame. Then puncture the edge of the blister and press gently on the top to let the fluid come out. Do this three times in the first 24 hours, says Dr. Basler. Then leave the blisters alone.
11. Question your medications
Find out if you're photosensitive. We're not asking if you like to have your picture taken.
The question is whether certain drugs increase your sensitivity to the sun and lead to a burnlike dermatitis. Antibiotics, tranquilizers, and antifungal medications can cause reactions, says Dr. Basler. So can oral contraceptives, diuretics, drugs for diabetes, and even PABA-containing sunscreens. Always ask your doctor about potential side effects of any drugs you may be taking. Even common foods can trigger a bad reaction. "Two young women I know tried to lighten their hair with lime juice," he says. "They didn't realize what a potent photosensitizer lime juice can be until they developed terrible dermatitis every place the juice had run down their faces and arms."
12. Wise up
Don't make the same mistake twice.
After you've gotten burned, it takes 3 to 6 months for your skin to return to normal, says Dr. Schreiber. "When you get a sunburn and the top layer of skin peels off, the newly exposed skin is more sensitive than ever. That means you'll burn even faster than you did before if you're not careful." Be sensitive about your sun exposure and protect yourself with sunscreen, hats, and clothing.
SMART TIP: You can still get UV rays through windows, so apply sun block even when you’re not planning activities outside.
**When to call the doctor**
Some burns are simply too severe to be treated at the drugstore.
A severe burn can take a lot out of you, says Dr. Basler. Consult a doctor if you experience nausea, chills, fever, faintness, extensive blistering, general weakness, patches of purple discoloration, or intense itching. Be aware that if the burn seems to be spreading, you could have an infection compounding the problem.
